Mailtrap Adds Email Tracking Opt-Outs for CNIL Compliance

Mailtrap has introduced Recipient Tracking Opt-Outs, a new feature that lets you give recipients an easy way to stop email open and click tracking without unsubscribing from your emails.

The update is designed to help marketers comply with France’s CNIL requirements, which require marketing emails to include an easy way for recipients to opt out of tracking pixels.

Once you enable Recipient Tracking Opt-Outs for a sending domain, every email sent from that domain includes a separate “opt out of tracking” link in the footer. This link is different from the unsubscribe link. If someone clicks it and confirms the request on a Mailtrap-hosted page, Mailtrap immediately stops recording email opens and link clicks for that email address.

The change applies to both future emails and emails you have already sent to that recipient.

Previously, someone who wanted to avoid tracking often had no dedicated option unless they unsubscribed completely. With this update, recipients can continue receiving your emails while preventing open and click tracking.

You can also choose where to use the feature. Enable it only for domains that send emails to regulated regions, while leaving it disabled for other domains.

You can review subscribers who have opted out of tracking by going to Suppressions → Tracking Opt-Outs.
