Beehiiv CEO Tyler Denk says the company is spending around $25,000 every month on AI tokens, but the investment has not convinced him that AI is ready to replace software engineers.
Denk described AI’s impact on software development as “marginal” when it comes to increasing Beehiiv’s overall speed of shipping new products. He added that the results vary across the engineering team. Some engineers use AI agents to produce several times more work than before, while others see only little productivity gains.
Denk also noted that code quality remains a concern, with engineers continuing to debate when AI-generated code is appropriate and when it needs more human review. He added that turning AI-generated ideas into production-ready software is still a challenge, noting that building a quick prototype is much easier than maintaining reliable software for more than 60,000 active Beehiiv customers.
