Substack has introduced a new feature that lets you limit comments to paying or free subscribers on individual posts. As a publisher or creator, this gives you more control over who can join conversations without changing the settings for your entire publication.
Until now, if you enabled comments, anyone who met your existing comment permissions could take part in the discussion.
The benefit here as a creator is that, by limiting comments to subscribers, you can encourage more readers to subscribe before they can join the conversation. This could also help reduce low-quality comments and create more focused discussions around your content.
If you are a reader, the downside is that some posts may no longer allow you to comment unless you subscribe to that publication.
