Microsoft is adding a new security feature to Microsoft Edge that automatically stops scam and malicious websites from sending you browser notifications. The update is scheduled to begin rolling out in September 2026.
Microsoft says it will now monitor websites that send you browser notifications. If one of those websites is identified by Microsoft Defender SmartScreen as a scam, phishing, or malware site, Edge will automatically unsubscribe you from its notifications.
If Edge blocks notifications from a site by mistake, you can review the blocked websites and restore notification access by visiting: edge://settings/privacy/sitePermissions/allPermissions/notifications
This feature only affects browser or push notifications. It does not block emails, text messages, or notifications from other apps.
