The University of Tennessee has introduced a new AI-powered email filtering feature in Outlook that automatically moves promotional emails and newsletters into a dedicated Promotions folder.
Once the feature is enabled, Outlook will automatically create a Promotions folder in your mailbox similar to Gmail’s Manage Subscription folder. Promotional emails and newsletters from external senders will be sent there instead of appearing in your main Inbox.
The AI studies patterns from incoming emails to determine which messages are likely to be promotional rather than important. If Outlook identifies an email as graymail, it automatically moves it to the Promotions folder.
The system also learns from your actions. If you drag an email from the Promotions folder back into your Inbox, Outlook remembers that preference and is more likely to deliver similar emails directly to your Inbox in the future.
If you move an email from your Inbox into the Promotions folder, Outlook will begin treating future messages from that sender as promotional.
For marketers, this feature joins many that are currently being implemented, which make it hard for your marketing emails to reach the user’s primary inbox. We have covered several such features in our previous articles.
